On-Campus Energy

Everywhere you look on a campus, you’ll see a demand for electricity, heat and/or cooling; energy is needed to maintain classrooms, labs, dining halls, dorms, offices, athletic facilities, maintenance buildings and, basically, every place else. Some of that power is supplied by local utilities, but many campuses also have on-site power generation. How that power is generated and utilized on a campus has a potentially substantial impact on the overall carbon footprint – so incorporating clean, renewable, efficient on-campus power generation is often a necessary piece of any comprehensive climate action plan.

In this section of the toolkit, possibilities for on-campus renewable energy installations (think wind, solar, biomass), combined heat and power, and energy efficiency are considered.
