Energy Committee Guide

Energy Audit and Inventories

The first tasks of the committee will be to explore areas where the community might save energy. Some communities choose to conduct an inventory of energy use in the town (i.e., electricity, thermal, and transportation energy usage). A baseline of data allows one to track progress in energy savings and greenhouse gas emissions reductions.

An energy baseline helps communities assess their current status and track progress in terms of fossil fuel reduction, and can assist committees as they set goals. A town can't manage what it has not measured!
